Recycling ELV glass and developing new glass-wool applications

Alongside glass-to-glass recycling, we are evaluating a new outlet that converts recovered glass into GW for functional use in thermoplastics.

EU Regulation 2026/1738 establishes a framework to remove at least 70% of specified glazing from end-of-life vehicles and recycle it into defined quality outlets.

Why ELV glass recovery matters

Windshields, rear, side and roof glazing must be separated during dismantling and directed to high-quality recycling. Application dates and transitional details depend on vehicle scope.

Prepare cullet quality

Automotive glazing may contain interlayers, ceramics and metals. Crushing, sorting and cleaning must be designed for the intended outlet, with composition and contamination controlled.

Glass wool as a recycling outlet

Recovered glass can be fibreised for glass-wool production. Extending it from insulation into a functional thermoplastic material could connect different material loops.

Evaluate it as a resin composite

Waste-glass-derived GW is commonly based on soda-lime glass and differs from E-glass. Heat resistance, compatibility, properties and mouldability must be checked for each resin and part.

Frequently asked questions

01Can ELV glass be made directly into glass wool?

Interlayers and contaminants must be removed and composition verified before fibreisation is evaluated.

02Is the 70% figure recycled content?

No. It concerns removal and recovery of specified vehicle glazing; it is not the recycled-content percentage of a resin product.

03Is mass production available immediately?

The standard PP Mosu-fiber MB specification and development using waste-glass-derived GW are at different stages. Feedstock- and application-specific trials are required.
